Flying

Canberra is less than two hours flying from eastern Australian cities like Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne, Daily domestic flights are available to and from Adelaide, Brisbane and Perth and multiple daily domestic flights to and from Sydney and Melbourne. Driving

Driving to Canberra is a breeze. Australia’s capital is a three hour drive from Sydney and eight hours from Melbourne. There are plenty of scenic route alternatives if you like to get off the beaten track and visit one of the many country towns along the way. Find out more about driving to Canberra.

Trains and coaches

Want to go overland, but prefer someone else to take care of the driving? Regular bus and coach services to Canberra are available from Sydney, Melbourne, regional New South Wales and beyond. Getting around Canberra:

Whether you prefer public transport, driving, cycling, walking or gliding on the water, it’s easy to get around Canberra.

Buckle up

Driving is one of the best ways to see Canberra. With plenty of parking, no tollways and very little congestion, you’ll find driving in Canberra a breeze. Either bring your own vehicle or hire a car when you get here. Learn more about driving around Canberra.

Go for a ride

You can get pretty much anywhere with Canberra’s public transport options. Transport Canberra operates ACTION Buses, a convenient and cost-effective way for visitors to get around Canberra. You can also take advantage of Canberra’s taxi cabs and ride-sharing services.

Jump on an ACTION public bus, get a commentary aboard the Hop On Hop Off Bus, or learn about taxi and ride-sharing options.

You can travel to some of Canberra’s most iconic attractions aboard ACTION’s Tourist Loop service. Operating seven days a week, routes 81/981 take passengers to the Australian National Botanic Gardens, Australian War Memorial, National Arboretum, National Museum of Australia, National Zoo & Aquarium and Parliament House, just to name a few. Get pedalling

Canberra is known as the cycling capital of Australia, with its fine network of cycle paths and off-road mountain bike trails. Hire a bike or use your own pedal-power and enjoy the scenic side of Australia’s capital on two wheels. Discover cycling in Canberra.

Like a duck to water

Canberra may be land-locked, but with its smorgasbord of lakes, rivers and waterways, it’s fun to get around Canberra on the water. Hire a boat, or try stand-up paddle boarding or kayaking on Lake Burley Griffin. Take a dip in the Murrumbidgee River, or cast a line for some fishing fun. There’s so much outdoor fun to be had in Canberra.
